Best Way To Compare Moving Quotes

It is standard practice to obtain three quotes when using any type of service, and that includes hiring a moving company when relocating. Your first instinct may be to sign with the organization that offered the lowest bid; however, this is not always the best option. There are a few things you'll want to take a look at when comparing your three moving quotes.

Is Insurance Included?

Check to see whether the company included an insurance policy that will cover the cost of your belongings should they get damaged in any way during the move. This does not have any negative reflection on how hard working the moving company crew is, though. Accidents happen and it is always best to be prepared, so you'll want that extra protection included in your quote.

What is the Time Frame?

Perhaps you have one quote that is significantly lower than the rest, yet the time frame specified to deliver your items is much longer. In this instance, you'll have to decide if waiting for your belongings is worth the few extra dollars you'd save. If you're on a tight schedule though, you might not want to take the chance, so always check the time frame first.

Is the Packing Included?

Some companies charge less because they expect the customer to have done all of the packing. If you are moving in a hurry, you may need to have the moving company do your packing. Always check to see if this service is included in the quote.

Are There Hidden Fees?

Always check for hidden fees in the fine print. Just a few of these lesser advertised fees include charging extra to handle bulky items or items that are over a certain weight limit, adding a fee for having to use an elevator, and travel charges associated with getting from the company's home base to your home. Moving cancellation fees may also be listed.

Do They Have a Good Reputation?

Take a look at each of the three companies that provided you with quotes and do a quick search on them. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) is a good place to start. Then move on to review sites. What are previous customers saying about the company? Were any issues resolved quickly and to the satisfaction of the client? Going this route is especially helpful if your quotes are extremely close. It can give you the info you need to make that final decision.

Once you know what to look for within each quote, you'll be able to make an educated decision as to which company to go with. This will save you time and stress and help your move go much more smoothly.
